EP: 010 Long Term Goal Setting

Today we’re talking about Long Term Goal Setting. Now I want to be clear that we are NOT talking about LIFETIME goal setting. The difference between long term goals and lifetime goals is simple. Long term goals are the goals you plan to achieve in the next year to 10 years, while lifetime goals are the goals you plan to achieve in 20 to 40 years. I break goals down into three categories: Short term, long term, and lifetime goals. I fully believe that the best short term goals are the ones that help you reach your long term goals, and that the best long term goals are the ones that help you reach your lifetime goals. Think of it as a goal pyramid, with the base your short term goals,. The middle layer your long term goals, and the peak is your lifetime goals. Like the pyramids of Egypt, it takes a LONG time and a LOT of work to complete your goal pyramid, and like those same ancient pyramids, the results of your goal pyramid have the potential to still be seen many generations after you the builder are gone.
Let’s focus in on setting your goals for the next year to 10 years. I recommend you break this down into following 5 steps: Visualize, Make a List, Prioritize, Set Dates, Create Action. These five steps will allow you to follow discover and then set your long term goals.
